Resolution
Who decides a market's outcome, how the result reaches the chain, and when you can redeem your shares.
A market resolves when its outcome is final. The result is reported on-chain as a payout for each outcome: 1 for the winner and 0 for the loser, or 0.5 each for a 50/50 result. After that, you can redeem your shares for USDT. See Positions and outcome tokens.
Each category's description holds the rules its market resolves by, including the source of truth and how ties are handled. Read them before you trade.
Who resolves a market
A category's resolutionProvider says who decides its outcome.
resolutionProvider | How the outcome is decided |
|---|---|
PREDICT_DOT_FUN | Most of these markets follow a question on UMA's Optimistic Oracle, on Polygon. The outcome is proposed there, and it can be challenged and disputed. Once UMA's answer is final, it is proposed to Predict's oracle on BNB Chain, the UmaCompatibleOptimisticOracle. When that proposal is final, the UmaCompatibleCtfAdapter reports the payouts. |
THREE_PO | A third-party resolver signs the outcome. The ThreePoAdapter checks the signature against its list of approved signers, then proposes and resolves the result in one transaction. |
CHAINLINK | Up/down markets resolved by the ChainlinkUpDownAdapter from Chainlink price reports. The market resolves Up if the price at the end of the round is higher than at the start, Down if it is lower, and 50/50 if it is the same. Chainlink price markets in the product docs explains the rounds. |
Predict's oracle on BNB Chain accepts proposals only from approved addresses. It takes no bonds and has no dispute step of its own. For a market that follows UMA, the challenge period and any disputes happen on UMA, on Polygon. How resolution works on Predict in the product docs explains UMA's proposals, challenge period and disputes.
Predict can also resolve a market directly in an emergency.
Status while a market resolves
A market's status shows where resolution stands:
REGISTERED: the market is live and nothing has been proposed yet.PRICE_PROPOSED: an outcome was proposed. Orders are still accepted.RESOLVED: the payouts are on-chain. The market stops trading, and itsresolutionfield and each outcome'sstatus(WONorLOST) show the result.
PRICE_DISPUTED, PAUSED and UNPAUSED are also part of the status list. See Markets and categories for what each one allows.
The market status topic of the WebSocket API tells you when a market resolves. It doesn't send PRICE_PROPOSED, so read that status from Get market by ID.
For a market's full history, Get market status logs returns each on-chain status change, oldest first, with its time and transaction hash. One request covers up to 100 markets.
Negative-risk markets
A question of a negative-risk category resolves in two steps:
- The oracle reports the result to the
NegRiskOperator. - About an hour later, Predict resolves the question on the operator, which reports it to the
NegRiskAdapterand records the payouts.
You can redeem after the second step. At most one question of a category can resolve Yes, and no question can resolve 50/50.
When you can redeem
You can redeem a market's shares once its payouts are recorded on its conditional tokens contract. That is when the market's status becomes RESOLVED. Redeeming has no deadline.
- A winning share pays 1 USDT.
- A losing share pays nothing.
- After a 50/50 result, each share pays 0.5 USDT.
See Manage positions to redeem with the SDK.
